Ras Abu Galum: camels, camps and quiet reefs

5 October 2026 · by Ahmed Shark

North of the Blue Hole, the road stops and the coast carries on. This is Ras Abu Galum, a protected area where the mountains fall straight into the sea and the only ways in are on foot, by camel or by boat.

Getting there

From the Blue Hole, the trail follows the shore for about an hour and a half on foot. Camels make it easier and a lot more fun. By boat it takes minutes, and you see the reef from above on the way.

What you'll find

  • Clear, quiet reefs, often with nobody else around.
  • Simple Bedouin camps: palm-roofed huts, cushions, tea and fresh fish.
  • Silence. No cars, no music, just waves.

Staying the night

If you can, stay. After the day visitors leave, the place empties out. Dinner is cooked over fire, and the stars are unbelievable. Our trip can include Bedouin food and camping.

Good to know

  • There is no shop, so bring cash, water and sunscreen.
  • Wear shoes you can walk in on rocks.
  • The reef starts right at the shore, so reef shoes help.

See our Ras Abu Galum trip. It pairs beautifully with the Blue Hole.
