What to pack for a trip to Sinai

2 November 2026 · by Ahmed Shark

A Sinai trip can mean a morning on the reef, an afternoon in a canyon and a night on a mountain. Here is what we tell our guests to bring.

For the sea

  • Swimwear and a quick-dry towel
  • Reef-safe sunscreen, or a rash guard (better for you and the coral)
  • Your own mask, if you have one that fits well
  • Reef shoes for rocky entries

For the desert and canyons

  • Shoes with good grip (trainers or light hiking shoes)
  • A hat and sunglasses
  • A reusable water bottle
  • A light long-sleeved shirt for sun protection

For the mountains

  • A warm jacket, hat and gloves, even in summer (Mount Sinai is cold before dawn)
  • A head torch for night climbs
  • A small backpack

Always

  • Your passport or a copy, for checkpoints
  • Some cash in Egyptian pounds for tea stops and small shops
  • Any medicine you need
  • A phone power bank

What you don't need

Heavy hiking boots, fancy clothes or too much stuff. Life in Dahab is relaxed, and simple is best.
